These images show oracy taking place across all year groups. Children are given the opportunities to develop their oracy skills through careful planning, grouping, roles, oracy strategies and games.

Early Communicators - Nursery

In Nursery,  pupils have been developing their listening skills through the foundation for phonics lessons.  They have been using nursery rhymes and instruments to develop their listening skills too great effect.  In Reception, pupils have been developing their speaking and listening skills so that they can communicate more effectively.  Pupils have been learning how to work with a partner and using key skills such as eye contact, turn taking and responding to a question.

Versatile Vocabularies - Year 1

Year 1 have been using games and strategies such as conscience alleys to develop their vocabulary and their oracy skills. Year 2 have been carefully planning and exploring different groupings eg trios to enhance and expand children’s oracy opportunities. 

Outdoor Orators - Year 4

Year 4 have been using their oracy skills to explore key vocabulary across the curriculum. They used and applied their oracy skills to work in a range of different groupings on a recent trip. 

Discovery through Debate - Year 6

This term, Year 6 have been learning about the working conditions in factories of popular sports brands. We have been using oracy skills to discuss and debate the issues, whether in pairs, trios or larger groupings.
