Nursery
In Apple Tree we foster a life-long love of learning with a curriculum led by your child's interests. We support our children to develop their passions through play to prepare them for all aspects of their school journey.
Our curriculum is skills based and allows all of our children to harness their full potential through tailored experiences and varied learning opportunities.
A typical day in Apple Tree includes carpet sessions that teach the children discrete skills in phonics, maths, literacy and whole-class activities based around our half termly theme. These carpet sessions are interspersed with free-flow 'Busy Time' where the children are able to play, explore and develop those discrete skills and concepts independently.
In Apple Tree, we teach phonics following the Little Wandle Foundation for Phonics scheme, which focuses on developing an awareness of sound through activities that support focused listening and attention. These include language development through high-quality stories, alliteration, rhyme, and daily oral blending.
In maths, we explore 'real' concepts that the children are exposed to as part of their daily life: days of the week, months of the year, shape and number recognition in our environment. We also explore counting, subitising, sequencing, and comparitive language related to size (bigger, smaller) and quantity ('more than', 'fewer than').
Our goal is for children to leave Apple Tree secure in their understanding of key foundation skills, confident in exploring new topics, and willing to rise to any challenge they may face.
