Hands-on Communicators

The photos below show the range of activities that deaf children take part in through their time at James Wolfe. It also highlights the importance of an individualised approach to planning and delivery to ensure that every child’s need is met. Interventions are well planned and resourced. Children are integrated as much as possible into mainstream. The centre provides a specialised curriculum with a nurturing atmosphere to allow children with language delay to make accelerated progress.

Early Confidence Boosts - Nursery

It is great seeing our Centre child in Nursery develop both their confidence and BSL skills to stand up in front of their class to help teach signs. The children enjoyed learning ‘like’ and ‘don’t like’ linking it to their topic.

Signs of Sunshine - KS1

In the Centre at Randall Place children enjoyed learning about different seasons, months and linking it to celebrations. They worked together to create posters to show the cycle of the year. Using shape coding, children were able to think of different adjectives to describe each season and have started to incorporate it into their writing.

Speaking of the Weather - LKS2

In the Centre at Royal Hill children delved further into the weather and created their own newspaper articles. They looked at real newspaper reports about the extreme weather we were having, learnt the different features and applied it to their own work. Children were very proud of their work, especially the ability to add speech using speech marks.

Theatric Role Models - UKS2

Centre children were very excited by the workshop with the National theatre. They had to create props and then create a story using their props. This was in preparation for our visit to see ballet shoes. One of the workshop leads was Deaf herself and a great role model for the children to see.
