Pray It Forward

This term, our focus has been on identity and belonging, exploring how different religions and beliefs help individuals understand themselves and their place in the community. Through learning about personal identity, religious celebrations and worship practices, students have reflected on their own lives while gaining a deeper appreciation of diversity, shared values and respect for others.

Celebrations in the Community - Reception

In Reception, pupils have been learning about themselves and their community, celebrating what makes them unique. They explored similarities and differences between themselves and others, fostering an appreciation of diversity. Through stories and discussions, they described different religious celebrations and reflected on the role of religion in their community. These activities helped them develop early skills of empathy and respect, forming a foundation for their future learning.

Faith and Family - Year 1

In Year 1, pupils explored different religions by identifying key features of Christianity and Judaism. They learned about Hanukkah and Christmas, recounting the stories behind these festivals and their significance. By discovering how families celebrate these occasions, they developed an awareness of different traditions. These experiences helped them make connections between celebrations and values, encouraging curiosity and respect.

A Focus on Sikhism - Year 4

In Year 4, pupils deepened their understanding of identity and belonging by exploring how religious symbols shape faith and worship. Focusing on Sikhism, they learned about the Chakra, Kirpan, and Khanda, discussing their role in expressing identity and guiding daily life. Through reflection, they considered how religious devotion and shared symbols help individuals connect to their faith and community, strengthening their appreciation of diversity and belief systems.

Bhuddism and Mindfullness - Year 5

In Year 5, pupils explored Buddhism, focusing on the Eightfold Path and the story of the Monkey King. They examined Buddhist values and reflected on how these teachings relate to their own experiences. Through discussions, they considered how principles such as kindness, mindfulness and respect for others can be applied in their daily lives. This learning encouraged them to think critically about ethical decision-making and the impact of their actions on their community.
