Parles-tu l'espagnol

In these photos, we can see a clear progression of skills across both campuses with a focus on vocabulary and writing development. Through this, children have been able to build on the oral and reading skills learnt from the Autumn term and use these to help them to develop their sentences and longer pieces of writing.   

The Languages Around Us - EYFS

Children in our early years have continued to learn about the different languages of the world through games and songs in the classroom, as well as experience books about children in other countries and cultures. In this class, they have begun to discuss the different cultures of European countries, especially France. They  have been learning how to greet each other in different languages. Children who speak other languages at home and have lived in other countries have shared how we can greet each other in their languages. Reception have also been learning about life in Rio de Janeiro, developing our understanding that a range of different languages are spoken across the world.

A Flavour Of Spanish - Year 2

This year two class have been focusing on a wide range of food vocabulary in Spanish this term consolidating previous listening and speaking skills from the autumn term. They have been able to make links between images and words before further developing this into sentences about their dislikes and like in regards to food. They have also been learning new verbs and adjectives in Spanish in order to describe different fruits and vegetables. 

Parallels Between Languages - Year 4

This Year four class have been having a brilliant time being able to communicate in a different language. They have moved on from their French learning of last term and are progressing through the same topics in Spanish this term; beginning as usual with salutations and greetings. Children has been able to draw parallels between the two languages they are learning. They have been developing their ability to manipulate simple language step by step, doing work that steadily increased in complexity of simple grammatical concepts.

Spanish Culture - Year 5

This year five class have been perfecting their understanding of what it means to be a global citizen by researching the Spanish culture and identity. Children were able to make comparisons and parallels to their own lives. After, the children began using their vocabulary sheets to write a conversation between two children using the greetings and salutations they have previously learned; including their ability to copy accented words accurately and learn short phrases from memory.
