Solving and Creating

EYFS and KS1 have observed the world around us to make informed design decisions. For example, exploring transport, global celebrations and have discussed their observations with their peers. KS2 have linked DT with cultural influences found in different groups across time.

Making Transportation Miniatures - Nursery

Nursery have been exploring transport. They looked  at the features of various modes of London Transport, discussing the colours they could  see, how fast, how many passengers, where were they going, how many wheels etc. They chose their own favourite type of transport and made their own models using junk, paint, glue and tape paying special attention to what they had discovered during class discussions.

Carnival Shakers - Year 1

Year one are planning their very own summer carnival at the end of term! They are looking at carnival music and learning about global celebratory music. They will plan and design their own junk model instruments (with a focus on shakers) then make and decorate. They will evaluate their shaker, discussing what went well and developmental steps for next time. They will show off and make lots of noise with their shakers during the carnival!

Fruit Kebabs - Year 4

Year 4 have been creating fruit kebabs to explore the variety of food that can be found in Caribbean cultures. This was linked to their Caribbean  poetry topic in English. In groups, the children planned their kebab designs, working collaboratively to build their actual kebas using a range of fruits and cutting tools. Each group spent time tasting and evaluating their product, exploring their individual opinions on the best kebab!

Masks of Benin - Year 5

Year 5 have been learning about the ancient Kingdom of Benin and have taken inspiration from the artifacts they observed on their trip to the Horniman Museum. Using clay, they decided to imitate the Benin Bronzes. They looked at the key details of the Benin masks, trying hard to replicate key features using a range of simple tools. For example, lolly sticks and hands to make patterns and facial features.
