Science Shaping Creativity

A James Wolfe scientist shows curiosity of the world around them. They ask questions, conduct investigations and apply knowledge of scientific concepts to understand and evaluate findings.

Exploring the Natural World - Nursery

In Nursery, the children participated in an autumn hunt to collect conkers and pine cones, which they placed in an autumn basket for their classroom. They explored these natural objects and used the conkers to practice counting, strengthening their early math skills by engaging with real-world materials.

Summer, Winter, Spring, Autumn - Year 1

The picture shows the cross curricular link of science with geography and history. Year 1 went on a walk around the local area, where children explored landmarks and historical buildings in Greenwich. They observed signs of autumn, such as browning and falling leaves, which helped them connect seasonal changes in nature with geographical features and local historical sites, providing a richer understanding of their environment and its past.

Science x Art - Year 4

The picture shows the cross curricular links of science and art. Year 4 explored the life cycle of a leaf and then the children created sequenced poetry to capture its journey, blending scientific understanding with artistic expression. Inspired by the natural leaf artworks of Andy Goldsworthy, they then crafted their own leaf-based art pieces, merging scientific observation with creative design.

Science² x Art²

Year 6 created autumnal scenes using collage and silhouettes. This activity allowed children to observe seasonal changes and incorporate their understanding of autumn’s colours and textures into artistic compositions.
