Striking Chords

The children have used a range of instruments (including their voices) to improvise, compose and perform.

Keeping Rhythm - Nursery

Nursery - nursery have continued to learn the names of instruments and have used them to keep to a rhythm while playing nursery rhymes.

Sea Shanties / Reading Notes - KS1

Year 1 - Children in Year 1 have been learning how to sing sea shanties using their voices. Children explored changing the volume of the voices and clapping along to the beat.

Year 2 - children have R&R the instruments and their families. They have been learning the recorder and explored high/low/gentle and loud sounds before learning a few notes. They are learning how to read the corresponding notes on the stave too. 

The Finer Points of Music - LKS2

Year 3 - children have been learning about; pitch and duration, dynamic, tempo, timbre, texture and structure. They are going to use their knowledge when they learn about African drumming this half term. They will be having a workshop and performing to year 1 and 2.

Year 4 - children have been learning how to play the violin. They have continued to learn about pulse, tempo and rhythm and how to maintain a rhythm. Children learnt the story of Peer Gynt, Grieg, Norway for music appreciation - discussing the tempo and dynamics of the piece. They have been using bows on strings with more confidence and both listening and performing, including string crossing. The children learnt the terms lpizzicato and arco and performed for each other. Year 4 have also continued to enjoy partaking in Rocksteady sessions!

… It’s Probably A-Minor - Year 5

Year 5 - children in year 5 have been studying major and minor chords. They took part in music appreciation listening to The Wedding March (Mendelssohn) for how chords build up, 'I'm a believer' to hear for major chords and 'Sweet Dreams are Made of This (Eurythmics) for how minor chords are used. They then practised playing c, f and g major. They used these chords to play 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star'.
