Investigating Flowers to Electricity

The images presented below illustrate the development of skills and knowledge from the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) to Year 6. Initially, children embark on a journey of exploring their surroundings and expressing observations verbally. Subsequently, they progress to more focused observation and categorisation. As their abilities evolve, children gain the capacity to observe, compare, classify and organise their findings in different ways, ultimately reaching a stage where they can fully engage in these cognitive processes.

Forest School - Reception

Reception have been taking part in Forest School sessions, during which they have been honing their observation skills and learning to identify  common species of birds found in our school. They took part in the RSPB Big Schools’ Birdwatch. Their results showed that James Wolfe is home to Woodpigeons, feral pigeons, robins, great tits, wrens and gulls.

Figuring Out Flora - Year 1

This term Year 1 have been study plants and have been learning to identify and name some common wild and garden plants. Using this knowledge, they sorted a range of wild and garden plants into their correct group.

Animals And Diets - Year 3

This term, Year 3 students have been immersed in the study of "Animals Including Humans." They've delved into the understanding that both animals and humans require specific types and quantities of nutrition, relying on their diet since they are unable to produce their own food. The accompanying image illustrates their efforts in categorising various foods into distinct food groups They then researched the nutrients that each food provided.

Materials and Conductivity - Year 5

This term Year 5 have been studying properties and changes of materials. They conducted an experiment to identify conductors and insulators and wanted to find out what type of metal would be the best conductor for lighting a light bulb. They first made a prediction using the knowledge that they had already learnt about materials and their properties. They then conducted their experiment to see if there predictions were correct and wrote a conclusion to explain what they found out.
