Personal reflection in religious education

This term’s examples of RE learning each involve the key skill of personal reflection. While learning about aspects of world faiths, the children have been given the opportunity to reflect on values and traditions in their own lives.

Exploring faith in Reception

Children in Reception have explored celebrations across different religions and have considered the ways in which they celebrate in their own homes. They have looked at the key elements of each celebration, thought about similarities and differences and listened to the stories behind each one. The image shows a child painting a firework picture as part of their exploration of the hindu festival of Diwali.

Christianity in Year 1

Whilst exploring Christianity, year 1 have considered Jesus’ role as a teacher and have focused on the skill of sharing, in the way that Jesus shared fish and loaves. The image shows the ways in which this child has considered ways that they can share in their own lives.

Learning about Islam in Year 4

As part of their learning about Islam this term, Year 4 have learnt about the features of a Mosque as well as the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca. The children reflected on the meaning of a pilgrimage before considering where they would go on a pilgrimage and why.

Buddhism in Year 5

Year 5 have been learning about key symbolism and key stories in Buddhism. As well as reflecting on the meaning of the lotus flower symbol, the children also thought about a time when they have found inspiration in nature having heard the story of the Monkey King.
