Drawing at James Wolfe

The photographs celebrate our strong progress in developing our drawing skills. We believe that sketching is the basis for all visual art and teaching children these skills helps to build their confidence in art.

Drawing celebration outfits

Nursery have been answering their question “Where’s the party?” They discussed weddings and why they were special and why you get to wear special outfits. From this they drew designs of their own special outfits and also their bouquets! They collaged their outfits using tissue and magazine cut outs.

Creating tone

What do you observe here? During pumpkin season Year 2 were using their observational drawing skills and learning how to use tone to create 3 dimensional drawings. They learnt about the different pencil grades and how they can apply them to their drawings to help them look realistic.

Stone Age art

Look at Year 3’s incredible Stone Age art! These children have looked at different cave paintings and have explored using natural resources to mark make and recreate their own stone age cave paintings.

Banksy art

Year 5 experimented with line and mark using pencil and then recreated art pieces by anonymous artist Banksy. Can you see the incredible shading? They showed contrast using a range of pencil grades to create tone.
