We are staying safe online

We are celebrating our strong progress in developing our digital literacy skills about how to stay safe online. With increasingly sophisticated threats to children’s mental and emotional wellbeing through unmonitored access to online content, their online safety has never been a more important focus. This issues are being discussed and addressed through our learning and teaching at James Wolfe to equip children with tools to handle both themselves and others when online.

Using devices in Reception

In EYFS we discussed what devices we used. We also discussed how these devices should be used, emphasizing the need for an adult to be present. We also spoke about which games were appropriate for them to play.

We are SMART

Year 1 created a poster based around the SMART acronym to help ensure they are always using computers safely. In line with this, they also discussed how they should use computers.

Think What You Know

Lower Key Stage 2 have revised and remembered the SMART with a heart rules and explored the ‘Think You Know’ website. They completed online questionnaires about their online behaviors and generated data to illustrate how long they spend online. Using this data, they discussed the ways they can keep themselves and their peers safe, creating eye-catching posters for display in their classrooms.

Saftey online first

Upper Key Stage 2 built on their knowledge of online safety with in depth and honest discussions on what they do online. Social media accounts have begun to be used in Upper Key Stage 2, so exploring kindness online and how to block, report and also seek help from trusted adults is explored in a far more depth.
