Hinduism: Rama and Sita - Nursery
Nursery had an exciting week of Diwali celebrations. Following learning about the traditions during this Hindu festival, and listening to the story of Rama and Sita, they engaged in a range of activities, from making coconut barfi sweets to role playing the story. Parents brought in objects used during their Diwali celebrations, which were shared with the class. Students connected the idea of peace to the joy of coming together in celebration, helping them understand the importance of kindness and sharing within their community.
Nativity and Christian Message - Year 2
In Year 2, students explored the theme of peace through the story of Christmas and the significance of Jesus for Christians. They learned how the birth of Jesus is seen by Christians as a symbol of peace, hope, and joy. By focusing on the Nativity story, children discussed how Christmas is celebrated as a time for kindness and goodwill, reflecting on simple ways they can be kind and peaceful in their own lives. This helped students connect the idea of peace to their own actions, encouraging them to think about sharing and being considerate towards others.
Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur - Year 3
In Year 3, students learned about Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur through fun, hands-on activities that helped them understand the idea of peace and kindness. They made apples with honey for Rosh Hashanah, which taught them about wishing for a sweet and peaceful year. By creating shofars (horns) for Yom Kippur, students learned about asking for forgiveness and making things right with others. These activities helped them understand how we can bring peace by being kind, saying sorry, and starting fresh. They were inspired to think about how they can be more peaceful and caring in their own lives, with friends and family.
Diwali: Celebration of Light - Year 6
In Year 6, students learned about Diwali and its significance as a celebration of light and the victory of good over evil. They explored how Diwali promotes peace through its themes of renewal, unity, and the triumph of good over bad. They discussed how Diwali values such as forgiveness, kindness, and togetherness can help bring peace to both their families and communities. This helped students connect the festival’s themes to their own understanding of how to build peaceful relationships.
