Siding with Polygons

Children have used their understanding what happens when shapes move, or combine with other shape. This helps develop wider mathematical thinking.

The Shapes Arounds Us - Nursery

In Nursery, children explored a variety of 2D shapes to replicate models, considering appropriate shapes for features such as doors, windows, and roofs in a house. This activity supported their ability to visualise shapes and develop an understanding of spatial relationships, including the effects of movement and shape combinations.

Descriptions of Many Sides - Year 1

In Year 1, pupils have developed fluency in identifying and naming common 2D shapes, linking them to real-world objects. They have demonstrated the ability to select shapes based on given descriptions and have successfully created repeating patterns using these shapes.

All the Right Angles - Year 3

In Year 3, children used manipulatives, such as angle finders, to develop their understanding of right angles whilst exploring shapes containing these. Additionally, children learnt to recognise and draw a variety of 2-D polygons and explored the definition of these shapes. Year 3 also utilised their Ipads as a resource to practise drawing shapes with.

Polygon Translates to Many Angles - Year 5

In Year 5, children have demonstrated the ability to identify, describe, and represent the position of a shape after translation. They use appropriate mathematical language to articulate these transformations and understand that the shape itself remains unchanged.
